Operation Christmas Child
Giving/Collecting throughout the year
This year, Deer Park is trying something new with Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes – we will be collecting ALL YEAR LONG! By doing this, we hope to have greater participation and reach our highest goal ever of 500 shoeboxes in 2017!
Each month, different items to be collected will be highlighted in the bulletins and newsletter. All donations can be dropped off either at the office during office hours or in Missions Corner. The “Shoebox Team” will regularly collect, sort and label the donations and store them until next November when we have our Packing Party.
We hope the church will get excited about this new approach to the shoeboxes. Look forward to sewing and/or craft nights, fundraisers (to collect for the shipping charges) and many other exciting things! Remember as you normally shop, to be on the lookout for clearance sales – especially after holidays! Be sure to check this site often to see what items we are currently collecting as well as things to save all year long!
For any questions, see the literature in Missions Corner or call Diane in the church office.
ITEM OF THE MONTH
During the month of May, we will be collecting personal hygiene items to go in the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes! Please keep in mind the following pointers when making your selection:
- Ivory Soap (this is the best soap to include because it floats and is highly visible)
- Quality washcloth (this may be the only wash cloth a child ever gets, so please try to purchase a high-quality washcloth instead of opting for an inexpensive multi-pack).
- Hair comb or hairbrush
- Deodorant (neutral-smelling, non-aerosol and non-roll-on. Solid “stick” deodorant only.)
Our goal for 2017 is 500 shoeboxes. It is an unprecedented goal for our church, but the OCC shoebox team is confident that we can reach it!
Call the church office with any questions.
